Week Four: Game Changers

It's time to make fitness fun, kindness crafty, and KP duties creative! (Expect greater detail on conference call.) It would be great to post your feelings, thoughts, or funny moments at least twice during the next 7 days. (Day Six is a required post day.)

Day One: Musical Chairs -- line up 3 chairs--standing/sitting squats for 60 seconds.

Day Two: "KP" -- In a 3 minute drill (set timer) -- clean off your kitchen counters of any bags of food (put in cupboard or refrigerator), throw out old food, or empty cans/bottles, tie up cords, etc.

Day Three: Kick the Can -- 60 second drill (do 5 times during the day) -- put a can on the floor and lift your R, then L toe to tap the top of the . Add 1 can each time to the pile and don't knock them over!

Day Four: Bedroom Detail -- Make your bed before you leave your bedroom for the morning (unless someone is in it!). Do this chore first thing in the morning-- then kneel by bed and pray. Next, weigh in and record.

Day Five: Capture the Flag -- 60 second drill (set timer) -- Lay on your back (on floor or bed), lift legs toward ceiling. Put a towel or band around one leg and bring that leg/knee to chest while extending the other leg. Repeat once for other leg. If you feel motivated, do a bicycle exercise on your back for 60 more seconds (you're already there)!

Day Six: Crafts Class -- Make a hand-crafted card and mail TODAY -- all in one day, pull out the supplies, make, address, post and mail a Thank You or Get Well card to someone who needs it (this could take a total of 30 minutes, as few as 10 minutes). Let us all know who you sent the card to and why--and of course, how long it took and how it made you feel.

Day Seven: Jumping Jacks -- 60 second drill (set timer) -- You can jump with a rope, lift one leg to shoulder at a time, shimmy, or stretch high hands to ceiling and back down to toes. Don't stop moving. Repeat 2-5 more times today.

Okay, campers, get active!

Be encouraged,

Becky

  1. Oh I wish more people would give me permission to do crafts!
I firmly believe this is why my friends teach school...so they get to play with colors, paper, tape etc.
There I was in Michaels today looking at the jewelry making, scrap booking, knitting, crocheting.......stuff.....

  2. Loved the call today, folks! I'm a little behind in posting for last week, but I'll catch up soon. I was out of town last weekend and am preparing to play for a funeral tomorrow. After that, I'll be back on to post.

The irony of this week's topic is that I will actually BE at camp for three of the days! It is time for our annual Yearbook Camp at Gettysburg College in PA. My students are very excited about going, for we will come home with the 2011 yearbook well on its way. . . . I'll do my best to keep up with the daily "camp" duties while I'm there.

Take care everyone, and have a great week!

  4. I got my camera out and took a picture. So now I have a pix next to my post. I love doing crafts. I was doing scrap-booking before it was popular. Would love to get completely caught up on my photo albums. Goodnight. Is Day one Wednesday or Thursday?

  6. Becky
we all need to work on our WOOO HOOO's
I read you E-blast and liked your excitment.

I need some more excitment in my voice. Most of the time I put myself on mute when I lesson to the calls.

Anyway. Robbie...great picture. I need to also change my picture.

Maureen. Hi Glad you are back.

Laura. you are so fun. I like going to craft stores also. Like looking at all the new stuff.

    Hi Pam.

I didn't have time to do last weeks camp...so I am doubleing up this week.

I took my boys to football camp. Very hot...last week.

Its just like me talking and talking into the night. Lights out for now.

  7. Mickey you put a smile on my face. When I go to womens retreats I usually get a room by myself because I enjoy the women so much that I stay up talking and talking and talking. I bet this is no surprise to any of you. Glad your back. I sort of missed out last week too. Mickey is this picture taken in Boston?
Did gardening all day. Will do my chair exercise before I go to bed. I forgot earlier. A new day tomorrow. I have such fond memories of camp as a child, this whole theme, although corny at times, makes me happy. I have a new gal in my challenged women's bible study. (this group was from Becky giving us a community service assignment in December) I gave her breath in Holy Spirit assignment and need to pick her up a DWBible. This group makes such a difference in my life. It is reaching farther than me. I was at a department store yesterday and a store clerk commented on my slim figure. I told her about the Flat Belly diet and this group. She then went into some very sad news, her husband died of cancer and she is gone back to work to raise her 8 & 10 year old boys. Keep her in your prayers her name is Tami. I told her that I would lift her up in prayer. I tell you this because this group has greater outreach then just us making little changes big results. God is the lifter of my soul. See what I mean about talking lights were out a while ago and here I keep going. See you tomorrow.

  8. So, I said to myself do I want to start trying to learn scrapbooking/card making when I already want to learn knitting, crocheting, jewelry making and to get back to sewing?
No, but there is a dear sweet elderly couple that have been close to my family forever.
They sent me a very nice anniversary card in June, and put fond memories of times with my Mom and Dad when they were all dating.
So I'm going to make a pretty card with the supplies I have around here and sent a note to them.
    They'll love it.

  9. I am loving the 60 second drills. Having chosen "procrastination" as my focus discipline for the quarter, it's a great motivator. Now, if only there were a 60 second drill for my '09 taxes...My ex-mother in law is very ill with cancer right now, and we're not sure how long she is going to make it. I'm going to send the card to her and thank her for her amazing influence on my daughter. She's the grandma who took her to the symphony, the opera, the library and swim lessons. I will always be grateful.

  10. For some reason I’m not looking forward to each day’s assignments this week—like the past weeks. (Maybe I’m home sick? Let’s see, would that be I do not WANT to change????---“Oh, Lord! Help me!”) I feel a pull and tug between: Yes, change and Grow! Vs. No, stay the way you are.

Kimberly—You have inspired me to totally cut back my wardrobe to what I actually wear.

Laura—When you shared about your Bible Study focus—I thought about the idea of doing one thing really well. I often feel I am scattered in having several interests, but not doing any of them really well. But, honestly, my collage work (similar to scrapbooking) is really my joy. Every now and then I hear a pastor ask if we are spending too much time on our hobbies, suggesting there could be a better, probably more Godly, use of our time. But I find my collaging time—alone or with friends, for myself or for gifts—is really inspiring to me, helps me sort through feelings and is an important way I express myself. I think it’s wonderful to have a passionate, joyful focus. I recently met someone who loves collaging as I do and we have become great friends. No one else quite understands. I hope the same happens for you.

  11. Thanks rhm! I appreciate the reply.
I do know we can go overboard with any activity, but my study happens to be the only one I allow myself to take a break from work with. I hear ya, and thanks for the confirmation.

  12. rhm, I think that these exercises this week are getting us out of our normal routine with a little spunk. Are you still walking 1/2 hour a day? I too, aren't that excited this week but I thought it was the huge push I have had for what else "the wedding". I keep a very clean kitchen and always make my bed. Growing up my friends couldn't understand how when they would come into my bedroom in the morning my bed would be made and piles of stuff would be on top of it. Well, I have advanced to a made bed and nothing on it. Yeah!! So today I worked on the closet getting rid of more stuff. I am hoping to find my pearls in all of this stuff that clutters my closet. I filled a bag for give away. Woo Hoo! I love the reminder to kneel and pray. I got into bed last night and remembered that I had not kneeled and thank our Lord for the day. It took a few minutes but I did it. I slept from 10pm to 7am, first time in months having a full nights sleep. A nice reward for knelling.
Making my card on Monday. A collage of pictures put on a card for a thank you note to a lovely meet the new family dinner. My photos by themselves aren't that great but as a collage: spectacular. rhm you gave me the idea!! I will let you know how it turns out.
Anybody coming out for the bootcamp in CA?

  13. Thank you for the reminder, Robbie - I've been having trouble sleeping lately and I tend to pray from my bed. But perhaps the act of kneeling will be helpful. I started walking 30 minutes a day at your suggestion back in April and now I am officially training for my first half marathon. I ran 4 miles yesterday, woo hoo!
Laura, I want to encourage you to ignore those who tell you that being that diligent about studying the Bible and talking about it is somehow prideful. I went to a Christian university in So. Cal (that's where I first heard Becky speak - back in 1989!) and sometimes I'm embarassed to speak up in Bible studies because of what I learned in my Bible classes. I've been convicted that that kind of discouragement is not from God. Jesus told us not to hide our light under a bushel, right?

  14. Wow Sharon, I so agree.
I was actually told that I crushed other women's spirits because I mentioned a few studies I was doing at the same time (one was one of Becky's quarterly courses).
I tied them together, indicating that God was conveying the same message to me through a few different speakers/teachers. That was all I said....

Well, I am not getting to the physical things this week fellow campers. I have a less than severe form of fibromyalgia, and right now I am hurting pretty badly. Apparently my office chair is causing me some lower back issues.
I'm resorting to hot tub, and still walking and trying to stretch things out but that's all I can handle at the moment.
I think I need some better walking sneakers and I know I need something for my office chair.

  15. I sent my card to my friend Angela who is going through a rough time right now. I spent about 1/2 hour on it. I know she will be encouraged and feel loved.

Kneeling prayer and being in the Word each day is keeping me grounded.

  16. Ok, I wrote my letter. I was praying about who to write and a name came to mind-Patti's mom. I have never met the woman. My last letters to her were in 1996. The next time I heard about here was August 1997. The news reported her attack in Canada by a bear that killed her and left her son critically wounded. So I researched the story thru google and found her mom's name and where she lived in 97. Then googled and found the same name and an address. So I mailed the letter not sure if this is the right person. But God knows.

  17. Hello, Ladies!

Although I haven't done all of the daily assignments for the past week, I have definitely been in "camp mode"--literally! My students and I got back from Yearbook Camp last night, and I just have to take a moment to tell you how proud of them I am! A little more than 350 students and their advisors attended the camp at Gettysburg College, representing 80 schools from seven states. My girls worked extra hard, and at the awards ceremony yesterday afternoon they were awarded a huge trophy for Best Theme Concept for the 2011 Yearbook. They are so excited about starting back to school and making their concepts turn into actual pages in the book.

While, I didn't have much "down time" at camp and, like the kids, didn't get too much sleep, I made good choices at all the meals, spent my breaks walking around the campus, and took time for kneeling and praying back in my dorm room. Now that I'm back, I think I'm going to make each of the students a hand-crafted card to tell them personally how special each one is.

Robbie, I don't think I've posted since you got back from the wedding. I really enjoyed hearing about it, and your faithful commitment to the Lord and to the group through the preparation has been so inspiring.

Laura, the card you are sending sounds like a very special one; I know your friends will love it. I will keep praying for your financial situation and for relief from the pain you've been experiencing.

Mickey, I hope you and your boys enjoyed their football camp. We'll have to share Woo Hoo's at this afternoon's call.

rhm, I understand the "pull" you mentioned earlier in the week. I think we all have times when we feel that we are drawn to the familiar and easy; this boot camp is really helping us to have the courage to stretch and grow, though, and I know that the DAILY posting helps. I've been pulled toward not posting, but I'm back home from camp and ready to get back to the day-by-day efforts. I wish you a week filled with daily successes!

Sharon, your training for the marathon sounds wonderful! Keep up the good work. . . . You mentioned something weeks ago about wanting/needing an accountability partner to deal with the food issues. I responded to your post, but I guess it was too late for you to notice. Anyway, I hope you are doing well in all of your efforts.

Take care, Ladies! I look forward to this week's challenges. :-)

  18. I was so encouraged doing our fitness exercises this past week that I decided to go back to the HealthPlex and I did. I had quit going for 3 months during the summer monthes. I went back this week and I was amazed at how hard it was to get back into my routine exercises. Even the treadmill wore me out and I had to cut my time in half. However, I am getting back up to speed now and feeling good about it. This has been a good week for me. It was just the kick start I needed to get back into my fitness routine. Thanks Becky.
