Week Two: You can do anything for 60 seconds!

Maintain your stamina in memorizing your scripture for this quarter, kneeling in prayer daily, and breathing in the Holy Spirit whenever you get frustrated or afraid!

For the next 7 days, you will be challenged to do simple tasks for 60 seconds. Set a timer, so you are not tempted to stop early. But you are welcome (and encouraged) to keep going IF you want to!

Day One: Clean out your purse or briefcase. (Throw out any wrappers, file any receipts, clean up makeup spills--eliminate and concentrate.)

Day Two: Choose any junk drawer and attack for 60 seconds. Return to it at another time or keep going. Just 60 seconds at a time--use a timer.

Day Three: Sit Ups or Squats--your choice. For sit ups, you can lay on a bed with knees up or stand with hands behind head and pull knees up to elbows. For squats, hands on a chair and bend or take a standing squat across the yard, park, sidewalk, or hallway. 60 seconds and stop.

Day Four: Load or Unload the Dishwasher or Fold Clothes in Dryer OR handwash dishes or a delicate garment. 60 seconds then stop. Finish later if you are not finished. Time the total exercise and post on blog. (Note: it usually takes much less time than we expect.

Day Five: Post on the blog what you have experienced with each assignment so far. Fun? Hard? Easy? Time it took to unload dishwasher?

Day Six: Re-organize one drawer or section of your closet. 60 seconds--use a trash bag for garbage, a box for giving to good will, or a shopping bag to load up for dry cleaner. At the end of 60 seconds take the bag out to trash, the box or shopping bag to trunk of car.

Day Seven: Repeat any of the first six assigments in six-60 second continuous increments OR do one assignment for 6 minutes in a row! 60 seconds 6 times...just 6 minutes. Report in on the blog what you have found out about yourself this week.

Be encouraged,

Becky

Watch for a vlog on my facebook page this week!

  1. I can do anything for 60 seconds. Almost anything.... I can't do a yoga plank for 60 seconds. I tried! That was going to be my exercise, so I am altering the 60 seconds to 6 second intervals! This I can do.
I did come home early today from work and got right to my tasks. Things that needed to be done all week, but just put off. Not big stuff, just "stuff". It's done. Took me no time at all. Why do I put off those tasks that are not difficult, or time consuming? Sheer laziness I suppose. Good motivation for this weeks challenge. Thanks!

this task is kind of embarrising.

  3. I cleaned out two drawers in my kitchen this morning. It felt great! I love the 60 second idea. I was going slow, and then put the timer on my stove to 1 minute...and I got a burst of energy and it was fun. I had to reset the minute to 5 minutes, but that is all it took. It reminded me of the game "perfection" where you set the timer and have to put in all the little pieces before the timer goes off.

I have a basket of papers I need to go through and have been procrastinating on...So, I will tackle that next.

Please pray for me as I study this week and next. I am taking a music certification test on the 24th. I am thinking the music teacher at our lower elem. will be retiring next year, so I want to be ready in case that position becomes available. Also pray for God's direction...do I go back to work (as a kindergarten teacher if that position becomes available this year, or do I continue to stay home???) My youngest goes to kindergarten this year. I know God has the perfect plan and I desire to be in the center of His will..so pray God will open doors if I should go back, and speak to me clearly about His purpose and plan for me.

  4. OK Mickey/Denver I use to carry a purse and a tote bag that usually had the last purse in it that needed to be in the purse I decided to carry. When my oldest was in 3rd grade I went to a parent/teacher conference. His teacher want to talk to him about organization. She used the example of why women only carry one purse. He looked so puzzled and I just tried to hide my purse and my tote. I still laugh about that and it was 12 years ago.

  5. OK, I must have sensed this week was coming...for the last week, I have been on a cleaning frenzy. 2 loads to Goodwill in my Surburban already. Today I tackled the garage - had to be 10 years ago when we last really cleaned it. I am throwing out stuff like never before and it feels GREAT! I even emptied out the contents of one of my desk drawers and put it on the floor next to the trash can. I love empty drawers. I think it will stay empty! Thanks for all the great ideas Becky. :) Weight is stable. Ready for the beach this weekend.

  6. Beth it sounds like you have some exciting changes in your life! I will be praying for you.

  7. I love the purse stories, ladies! I think we can all relate.

Beth, it does sound as if you have some exciting changes coming. I'll be praying for you, too.

The 60 second idea really works! I tried it with the little drawer in my night stand. After 1 minute, I reset it and repeated that until I had completely reorganized the drawer (and tossed half the contents) in just under 5 minutes. Wow!

    Have a good night, everyone!

  8. Last night I wrote a post that did not post. I was so tired at the time that I did not keep trying. But I am going to try again now.
My word is strength in all areas of my life. I am very disorganized. We are moving in August and when I try to get things packed I start to feel overwhelmed and physically week. I really need prayers for this.
We had thunderstorms and flashflodding last night. I woke up to a flooded basement.

  9. I should be studying...but the creative juices started flowing, and I wrote a poem for our group. Enjoy! Beth

"A Minute To Win it!" by Beth Marble

I have only just a minute
    Just 60 seconds in it.
I must choose to use it
And not waste or refuse it.

    Just a tiny little minute
But an eternity is in it!
For how I decide to spend it,
I can abuse it, lose it, or win it.

It is an attitude of prayer,
    And showing that I care
About the simple tasks in life
Being a mother, friend, and wife.

60 seconds is all I need,
To get me motivated and up to speed.
If I put it off and choose to wait,
The task will not get done, and I'll procrastinate.

Set the timer and just do it.
Set some goals and follow through with it.
    Memorize scripture, kneel in prayer,
60 seconds of journaling, and no despair.

Breathe in Holy Spirit, and out with the stuff.
Knowing God is there when the going gets tough.
Do the dishes, the laundry, write a letter to show you care.
A minute at a time will get you there.

    60 seconds to get fit,
Don’t be a couch potato and just sit.
Do some lunges, sit ups, or just walk.
Don’t just plan and talk the talk.

Crank up the music, set the timer and go.
Take 60 seconds to start, and don’t go slow.
Whatever it is you need to do,
Pray that God will help you focus and follow through.

Because I only have just a minute.
60 seconds to begin and win it.
I must choose to use it,
And not waste or refuse it.

  10. Great poen Beth!
Ok, I ended abruptly just a moment ago because my daughter can't find her video camera and my sone dropped his senior ring and can't find it. I have a mess everywhere with boxes, trash, stuff need to be put in boxes stuff draped on things trying to dry...I look like an episode of hoarders. So dear ladies please pray for my strength in all of this disorganization. I am sad about the move. Next week is my last week here and I have to tell a wonderful group of ladies goodbye. When we first moved here I was so depressed. I went to a ladies bible study and met them. I dont want to tell them goodbye! Thank you for your prayers and I'm praying for yall!

  11. Hi Ladies: Love love the poem, and will write out the prayer requests for you all in my journal.
I wrote up in another section, the purse thing was no big deal to me only because I am neurotic and I organize my purse every day. Oh well.

I did 60 seconds on the kitchen drawer, which felt longer than I thought it would. Reminded me of when the dentist tells you to swish something for 60 seconds and you think the time will never be up.

I cant dump the whole drawer out...too much time which I dont have at the moment. But in 60 seconds I did organize one drawer and found a spoon that was misplaced.

    Blessings to all....

  12. day2.
Beth your poem expresses all the that we are learning and want to learn and do. And yes. I will pray right now. and tomorrow and tomorrow for both you and Kimberly. I don't realy know who wrote this one but my french grandmere said. "That leaving is to died a little. To die a little from thoses you have loved." Ofcourse, it sounds better in French.

I didn't clean a drawer today but did do some cleanning of the window wells in the basement.

I wanted to move the tire swing outside on the tree because when the kids play on it they hit the tree. So, I coun't get anything else done between work. But that is something.

  13. Years ago when I had cancer I was stuck in bed for a really long time so I told people to call me with prayer requests, tonight I felt the same way I did then. As you know I am preoccupied with my daughters wedding. My car is filled with 48 flower arrangements to take at the crack of dawn. I wrote down your names with a quick what to pray for and will pray in the car. This way I feel connected to you all even though I won't be able to participate fully for a couple of weeks. Beth, that is the the best poem. I love poems now I know who I can hire to write my Christmas Card poem. I cleaned my purse out while I waited for my car at the car wash. I will clean a drawer before I go to bed.
Lord be with Kimberly give her strength to carry on to the next task. You are all she needs give her courage to meet new ladies and say goodbye to the friends she has made. Thank you that she is in this group that we can lift her up and it doesn't matter where she lives she is connected to us. Help her fix her flooded basement and help her not feel overwhelmed. You know her needs and love her. Lift her up. Amen
    Goodnight-Ladies

  14. FRiday Update:
Did sixty seconds of shoulder exercises. Apparently I have a shoulder impingement or am trying to have frozen shoulder. I chose to do these exercises because I should be doing them every day and I havent been. I got them out of a pretty neat book, which is for physical therapy-type exercises at home.

Dishwasher---it took sixty seconds to do the plates only. Another 3 /12 minutes to do the rest, another 1 minute to put things away from the drainer and another 1 to load dishes back in.

But at least the task is done, and no it doesnt take as long as you think.
    Have a blessed Saturday.
    Laura.

  15. Did my squat for 60 seconds. My doctor wanted me to do these for my back but I procrastinate. Second timer in hand it wasn't bad. I drove to San Diego today potted 46 centerpieces, organized a do list and drove home. Prayed for everyone I could remember on the blog. So nice just talking out loud to God and letting your requests just come to me from the holy spirit. I have a chemo brain (lack in memory) so when I can remember to pray for strength for Kimberly, endurance for Mickey, direction for Laura, effective study for Beth; I know it is a God moment. Made great time and I am not even tired. I have been praying for my daughter to find an apartment and today a friend of theirs said they could stay in his beach house(reduced rent) for the month of August while they look for an apartment. Her husband to be is very handy and is going to do some work for the landlord to keep the rent down. I just cried when I heard this. We only need to pray and then trust God will provide. Woo Hoo

  16. Just a quick note to say that yesterday I did squats for 60 seconds, and I was amazed at how I could feel the muscles working in just one minute's time. Then, today I unloaded the dishwasher in just a little more than a minute; in less than four, I had put everything away. You are right! It does not take nearly as long as I might have expected.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Robbie, it is so wonderful to read how in tune to the Holy Spirit you are! This is an inspiration to us all. I feel blessed to have your and all the other prayers. Give us wedding updates, too. :)

Wanda, I was amazed to 'feel' 60 seconds of sit ups. I thought I was getting in better shap with my walking. Shows me I need to step it up a notch.

It took me 4 minutes to unload my dishwasher. It took me 2 1/2 minutes to load. I think Im a little uptight about how I load it, but if any one else does the dishes they can load it any reasonable way they want too!!!

  18. I also wanted to tell yall that trying to clean up my basement has been a real eye opener for me. I had to throw out so many unread books. Then there was this box that had a hook rug kit I had wanted to do for my daughter when she was 6, she just turned 13. Then there were 3 empty cigar boxes not because I smoke cigars, but because I wanted to try to make purses out of them. They were proably 8 years old. Tons of pictures not in scrapbooks and scapbook materials never used. I can remember each time how eager I was to start these projects, then I remembered how weak and exhausted I would feel when I would try to start. I would think I would start when I felt better. Never happened. I don't want this to be a picture of my life!

  19. Well hello yall as Kimberly who must be from the South says. My daughter lives in Atlanta, I just love the south. Today I cleaned my spare room it was full of 24 years of pictures. I made a computer generated collage of my daughters life for the wedding. Looks fabulous, but instead of unloading dishes (I didn't have any to unload) I put away photos to have a clean slate to work this wedding. 2 years ago I read a book that really dealt with reason why we hold onto things. It helped me tremendously.
I believe getting rid of stuff for me is a spiritual issue of trusting god to provide. So I am hoping that the closer my walk with Our Lord the less stuff I will have. Just a thought. I feel inspired to drop off a bag of unneeded items to the goodwill on my way home from church. Just for your information the book is called It's all Too Much
    by Peter Walsh. Good night

  20. Wanda, would you guess I am from Wisconsin? But, I moved here 2 years ago from Rockwall, TX. (Dallas Suburb) I am in the process of packing up to move back.
I am going to try to get that book...and read that book! I am trying to get stuff to give to Goodwill. I have no excuse. They built one a few blocks from my house. I find memories in everything. I need to talk to the Lord about this, for sure!
The wedding sounds like it will be amazing.

  21. Consistancey/Cometment

    day four:
I set the timer for 1 min. then went to work unloading and that took about 5 mins. Then I had to put away some hand wash dishes so that took about 2 mins. then rushed to load the dirtys. that took 5min. so I am slow. it took a 12min for me.

    Wanda,
Thx for the coments on the squats. I felt the same thing. It realy worked the legs. I don't think I am very stronge now. Need to realy kick it up.

    Robbie,
YOU are wounderful...thanks so very much for praying for us all. I also prayed for you about getting everything done that you need to get done. and that you find some enjoyment in the work that you are doing. thanks so much.

    Laura,

thanks again for the pome. I printed it.

I did clean up a small place for a garden in the back yard. even if i don't have any flowers to put in it. I thought that I would call it the 60 sec. garden. Also, did get the tire swing moved with some help. Because on friday when I was working on it...i twisted my ankel.

Completly, cleaned out my desk. It feels great.

    Good night campers

  23. Robbie and Mickey, thanks for those prayers.
I hope the wedding is just blessed beyond words.
I'm thankful for the prayers of this group.
I'm finishing up my journal, organizing a bit to get all these things in there.
We did get some work this week, PTL.
I'm just frustrated with the jobs I found, and trying to see what God would have me do.
I dont think I know what I want to be when I grow up.....
I'm journaling and working on finding out what He wants.
I do so appreciate the prayers.

Oh, and I think it all depends on how spread out your kitchen is, and how much you cram into your dishwasher, also how much bending and stooping you have to do to put things away.
I was confronted tonight by my hubby and best friend however, for leaving pans soak in the sink and forgetting to get them out of there.
    oooops.....

  24. UH OH.........
I've really been spending time reading up on fulfilling your dreams and using your gifts and etc etc.
Tonight I printed an article I received in my email today from a Christian author.
UH OH.....there was the verse I selected for boot camp. Ephesians 3:20.
    ZAP!

  25. Great ideas, and easy to do!

60 second ideas would be great to teach children as well; not to mention husbands.

Kneeling has helped me focus for the day, and is a great way to jump start my morning meditation.

The activities for each day help me keep the "small tasks" in perspective, yet provides encouragement that things are getting done.

    Nice poem Beth!

  26. For me, the sixty seconds is not a reminder to move fast and beat the clock, my experience was much different. My experience was 60 seconds can make a difference. It propels me forward in a managable way. I can do that! I can do that and it gets me started. I started keeping projects to deal with in my kitchen and doing 60 second steps during the day, I got my papers, sorted, the kitchen cleaned and my cookbook set up. For me it is the reminder the 60 seconds matters and what I do with my time matters to god. I noticed it motivated the kids too, they were much more likely to see the little stuff. They put dishes away because the kitchen was a bit cleaner with the 60 second efforts. thanks for the reminder.

  27. What a great week--lots of postings showing much progress!

Robbie, how fortunate your daughter is to have a mother who is working so hard to make the wedding extra special . . . and keeping all of us in mind in the midst of everything. I am praying that you will enjoy every moment of the wedding preparation and ceremony and come back glowing with good news to share with us.

Kimberly, I can definitely picture your basement cleaning efforts. I've been working in my basement a LOT this summer (the best place to be in this continuing heat wave), and I have lots of the same kinds of things--pictures that need to be in albums or scanned into the computer and tossed, fabric and other sewing supplies that I never have time to get to while I'm teaching and going to school, too, and way too many of my parents' belonging that I am gradually beginning to be able to give away to Goodwill or Salvation Army. If you haven't read Peter Walsh's book that Robbie mentioned, you really must get a copy! I saw Peter on a television program a couple of summers ago and downloaded a copy of the book from audible.com. (It is great to listen to as you clean basements or closets, etc; his anecdotes and honest comments are highly motivating.

Mickey, I love the "60 second garden" idea. I have some flowers that are going to die if I don't get them in the ground. I've never been this late finishing my yardwork!! You've motivated me to plant at least a couple of things tomorrow.

Laura, I don't think it's any accident that your chosen verse keeps popping up--must be a "God thing," don't you think? I'll keep praying for an answer for you as you wait for God's abundance to be apparent in your job situation.

Beth, that little poem is perfect for our group! Thank you!!

KPaige, I like the way you mention the fact that the 60 second tasks "propel [you] forward in a manageable way." That' a great way to look at it. And Pam, you also mention the fact that these little steps encourage us and give us a better perspective. . . .

Tonight, I opened an e-mail from an organization called Simple Truths, and I found it so fitting for what we are doing in this group and what my Weight Watchers members will be discussing this week. I meant to copy the link to a little movie that contains a poem called "Staying the Course" by BJ Gallagher. I typed out the poem as I replayed the little movie a couple of times. It ends with these lines: "Ask yourself,
“What two or three little things can I do today that will move me forward?”
You’ll be amazed at how much distance you will cover ...
    by taking it in increments.
    The little things add up;
    the inches turn to Miles;
and we string together our efforts
    like so many Pearls.

Before long, look what you have . . .
    a whole strand!

    ah . . . beautiful.

I have found the 60 second challenges fun, eye-opening, and motivational. Together, I think our group is making amazing progress, don't you?

More to come in another post . . .

    Just one more thing before I say goodnight . . . .

You are probably tired of hearing my bird stories, but today my little friends took a leap of faith and left the nest! When I went out early this morning, two of them (fully feathered only 11 days after the youngest hatched) were poised on the edge of the nest, with the little one crouched in the bottom of the nest. Unlike previous days, both Little Mama and Little Papa were making noises, letting me know they wanted me to leave. I quickly took a couple of pictures, dropped the daily ration of blackberries near the bush, and came back inside. After church, I rushed over to the nest, and there sat the littlest one--poised on the side of the nest, as his siblings had been, but he was all ALONE! Once more I got the camera, shot a picture of him, and then went back inside for lunch. An hour later, he too had taken flight! Several times in the afternoon and early evening, I went back outside; every time, the parents were out there--often squawking at the other creatures in the area. I know that they are watching over their little ones as the tiny babies stretch their wings and venture out on their own. Oh, how I miss them already, and yet I think I've sealed the friendship with Little Mama. Somehow I expect to see a lot of her before cold weather comes.

What a gift these little creatures were. They helped me slow down, stop to enjoy nature, and see that there is so much more to life than racing in a frenzy from one commitment to the next. I'm reminded of the verse from Hebrews 13:2--"Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

    Goodnight, everyone!

  29. Hi, Fellow Campers:
I am taking a study break to check in.

Kimberly,Wanda,Laura,Robbie,Mickey...thanks for your prayers!!! I have been more focused in study than ever before, and I know it is because of your prayers. Friday, when I stopped and realized how focused I was, the following song popped into my head: "Somebody's praying...I can feel it. Somebody's praying for me...Lord, I believe...somebody's praying for me." I just praised God for this group and His provision, then went back to studying!!!

I have also written your names down and specific requests, and have been praying for each of you:Jerri,Mickey,Kimberly,Hugbear,Robbie,Kimberly,Wanda,Laura,Pam,kpaige,Becky
I plan to do better this quarter in praying for each of you (and the other campers not checked in on the blog.) I like feeling connected even though we have not met face to face.

I have to get back to studying now, and then lights out in my cabin! As far as the assignments go, I have noticed I like being challenged to beat the clock. It lights a fire under me, and I am doing things with more enthusiasm. Also, I did lunges and could barely walk the next day...and I have been exercising, so as some of you said...I need to kick it up a notch. My daughter did tell me that my arms (tricep area) did not flap as much like they did before. I will take that as a compliment.

Also, glad to know someone else uses "yall". I am a southern girl!

  30. Warning, if you poke your nose into a drawer for even sixty seconds, you may find something you didnt know you had.
Today I was in the lingerie drawer, and found something with the tags still on.
Now I wonder what else is back in that drawer....maybe I will finish that one on the six minute challenge.

  31. Isn't this fun! I resisted looking on the blog until now. I just came in from cleaning 19 huge succulent plants, they are going in underwater arrangements for, you guessed it, the wedding. Oh, do I feel the joy. I love all of your posts and wish I had the time to comment on each and every one of them. Each of you brings something special to the group. I know God is smiling on us. Wanda, I will never tire of your bird stories, you have a gift for writing. Are you an english teacher? I love to write but do not have the educational background. I was a Food Science major in college and didn't glean any writing skills just a lot of chemistry. I love the one minute challenge, the breaking down of the task in small moments makes all the difference. I was struck by kpaige comment on time mattering to God. You are right and thank you for the reminder. I have 2 more days before I leave. Thank you for your prayers they certainly make a difference. Beth, a thought came to me when I re-read your poem (actually I put it on my desktop and read it often) but tonight I thought this is going to end up in one of Becky's books. Wish you lived close I would have you help me write my daughter's wedding tribute. I just realized that I have no picture next to my name. Not sure how to do it but will make sure I change that. I love seeing your pictures I feel as if I ran into you at the airport I would recognize you. Time to hit the sack. Good night

  32. Good night campers--it's been a great Week 2 and I'm really proud of all of you! Please in addition to completing your next few assignments, maintain your stamina in memorizing your scripture for this quarter, kneeling in prayer daily, and breathing in the Holy Spirit whenever you get frustrated or afraid!

    Be encouraged,

    Becky

PS Happy Wedding Robbie--kneel and breathe!

  33. Oh yes, the poem. It might well end up in a book:)--brilliant! B

  34. What have I experiences: Kneeling in prayer and breating in the Holy Spirit and out the whatever has been dramatic. It starts the day off with the proper perspective. Journaling is having the same and has been emphasizing obedience to me. Memorizing the verse is reminding me the importance and that anybody even me can memorize a verse. The 60 second has shown me that it's like eating an elephant you take it one bite at a time. Plus that every minute is important. I can waste it or make it valuable. I know which one God wants me to choose!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Wanda...I never get tired of your bird stories. I can't believe the birds were ready to fly away...only 11 days. (can you tell I like to stay in my comfort zone!) A reminder to me to spread my wings and fly...and pray that God will push me out of my comfortable nest. Thanks for the link. I am going to check that out....after my test on Saturday!

Robbie, if I can help with the tribute, long distance, just let me know. (Bethmarble@aol.com) I really am not a poet, but the other night when I was studying, the words just kept coming, so I started typing and before you know it, God said "post it!" Definitely a God-thing! I love it when He gives us the words to say (or write!)

Laura...glad your drawer cleaning endeavor produced a new item. (and hopefully it still fit!) I found a part to my dishwasher that I had been needing. It came off the slide that keeps the basket from coming off, and for months now that top basket was frustrating me, because it kept coming out. Not only was I getting frustrated at the rack, I was also getting frustrated at my husband because he had not fixed it. Well...I had to confess up the other day, when my husband asked, "Where did this part come from?" Only 60 seconds to clean out that drawer, and only 15 seconds to put the piece on.

Mickey...keep going with The Love Dare. (be consistent!) It is easy to quit, but if you miss a day, just pick it back up and keep going.

Kimberly...still praying for your move. My mom lives in Arlington, TX, so maybe we can meet in that area some time. I know you do not have time to read any books right now, but one thing I have found to help (as someone else mentioned), is to put audio books on my ipod and listen as I go. Two books that have helped me get organized and to do better with time management: author Julie Morgenstern "Organizing from the Inside Out" and "Time Management from the Inside Out". I also have found that when I start struggling in this area again, I just listen again. Repetition! Repetition! Repetition! (and let go of the guilt!!!)

Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

  36. okay...I have to share. I just went to my web page (AFTER posting that verse), and the verse for the day is Isaiah 41:10. You think God is speaking to me?? Oh Yes!

Beth...Do not be afraid to take that test, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed that you did not pass that test last year, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you when you get weary and tired because I have a plan and purpose for you to use this music certification; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand, when you feel like quitting. (lean on me, when you're not strong, and I'll be your friend, I'll help you carry on...)

Let carry on ladies in His strength. Love you all!

  37. monday 19July,
Beth---WOW that is just fantastic...how god is talking loud and clear. Praying for you right now about the Certification.

Robbie----thanks , you are alway faithful and I enjoy reading what you are doing. Praying " Lord shower your love on Robbie this week and help her stay orgonized. Amen.

What I have learned this week and feel God is saying to me. You can only read on book at a time. so, stick with just one thing at a time

Pam.....so glad you are back. Hope all is well.

leaving for a football camp tomorrow will not be able to cking with every day. Just don't want to let you down Beth.

thanks Becky for these assignments. I needed the Breathing exercize.. Also, read in a non christian mag about how "BREATHE DEEPLY: We tend to take shallow breaths, particulary when we are stressed or anxious. Shallow breathing limits oxygen intake and further stresses the body. Deep breathing can release body tension and relax the mind, thereby improving both physical and mental health."

  38. Hi All: Ok, went back to that drawer again and spent just over six minutes on it.
Found two very cute, new looking camisole tops that would be really nice when you need an extra something under a shirt or sweater.
That makes three new to almost new items I've discovered.
However, also note this, if you have a drawer full of stuff from when you were in your thirties, or forties, maybe when you turn fifty you might want to look in there and toss some stuff.....if you know what I mean.

I think the best part of the week is that my thinking is being re-trained. So now it may just cross my mind that I can do a drawer in six minutes, or do some random exercises or empty the dishwasher even when I think I dont have time to do it.
    Things like that.
Really cemented into my thinking this week, Week 2.

  40. I did really well Week 1. I have been out of town on business most of Week 2 and didn't get to listen to the call until last night so I am trying to get caught up. This is definately the best quarter ever!!! Good job Becky. I am so encouraged by everyone's posts. So many of us are experiencing similar situations. I will post more later.
kpaige I read a wonderful book that I think you would really enjoy. "It's All About Him" by Denise Jackson applys to what you are going through. However the great strength and complete trust in God that Denise has can apply to many of the difficult lifechanging situations that so many of us are currently required to deal with.

  42. It has been a great 7 days. Unloaded dishwasher: 3 ½ minutes. Found pen I had been looking for in junk drawer (barely touched the surface of the drawer.) I have a purse AND satchel—couldn’t do without BOTH! Sorting through closet—for just 3 minutes—found an outfit I can wear to a job interview! Spent a good hour on Sunday putting lots of scattered odds and ends in their right place. It feels so good! Oh, yes—the exercise. 1 minute led to 10 minutes everyday on my Pilates machine. And I am back to walking ½ hour every day. Seems I am wanting to be intentional…..!!!

  43. RHM, what a great closing line! I think "wanting to be intentional" is really what our boot camp is about, isn't it? The daily assignments have been really motivating, and everyone seems to be doing great. . . .

Seeing how much is possible in just 60 seconds and being reminded of Peter Walsh's book that I have on my iPod, I ventured back to the basement today and ended up spending much of the day there! I did laundry, folded it and put it away; I gathered up two bags of clothing and other odds and ends for Goodwill; I completely cleaned out a 4-drawer filing cabinet, and am amazed at how energizing the experience was! I am eager to see what our next week's assignments will be. I hope everyone will continue to blog as much as this week.

One more note about my little bird family. . . . I mentioned in an earlier post that the little ones left the nest on Sunday. Yesterday was a kind of bittersweet day. I wasn't home in the morning, but after lunch I took a stroll around the yard and peered in the empty little nest; how sad it was to see the little ones gone, and yet I was glad to know that they had survived the heat and storms. Then, after I came home from my WW meeting last night, I gathered the trash and took it down to the street for today's pickup. As I started walking up the driveway, my next door neighbor's dog barked at me as he always does when both of us are outside at the same time. I went over to pet him through the fence and talk with him a bit, and just as I bent down, I heard Little Mama! I looked up and there she was in the crape myrtle. We continued our little "I'll whistle / you whistle" for a little while, and then I heard a rustling in the forsythia right beside me. Almost immediately, one of the babies hopped out and flapped his wings until he was perched in the crape myrtle, too. He turned to me, with his little legs bowed out and his body tottering on the branch, and seemed to be thinking, "Look at me! I can fly like the big birds!" It certainly warmed my heart to know that they are still close by and still trust me! :-)

    Goodnight!

  44. OK camp buddies, I focused on packing for our move. I am using the minutes to help me deal with it. If I get very overwhelmed I start my breathing in the Holy Spirit and out my fears and frustrations. Then I work at taking it a minute at a time. Of course I am getting really stressed. Heard some awful things about the school my daughter will be going too. I had a total freak out. Then I started praying. I opened up my email to this:
Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
    ~ John 14:1, NLT
What a blessing from God! Then I found out that they have a Girlz 4 God club. It was a great reminder that no matter where our children are and no matter how satan tries to abuse them our God is stronger and in control!

  45. It's amazing all the simple tasks that I got done in 1 minute intervals. Simple little cleaning things I allways procrastinated about are not a problem at all in 1 minutes increments. I find myself sometimes resetting the timer for another minute. Looking forward to Week 3.
Kimberly.....Good Luck with your move. I hope you have good weather.
